I love compiling and studying data. I rely on spreadsheets for everything from comparing bandsaws to putting together an order of take-out food for the family.
I even created a spreadsheet to help me decide whether to buy the Domino Assortment Systainers or pieces a la carte when I bought my DF 700 in 2012. However, even with all the numbers, there is no substitute for feeling the thing in your own hands and seeing it work. |

Here are some of my favourite demos I've seen, or performed:

SawStop brakeThe hot dog demo is a modern-day classic that entertains, amazes, educates, and starts discussion. If you haven't seen it live, you really should. Also, the Time Warp video done with a high-speed camera is very interesting if you like engineering. |
See How a SawStop Brake Activates
Mafell P1 ccIt seems mystical how this jigsaw can make cuts with so little deflection. And I love seeing how the blade can be installed backwards so it trails the baseplate, which makes starting a cut on an edge simple. |

Festool RotexSanding can be a slow and boring task that lulls you to sleep as the surface is abraded at a glacial pace. Not so with the Rotex sanders. In the gear-driven Rotex mode, you can literally watch a rough chainsawn surface be smoothed in seconds.

Lamello P-SystemAlthough the demo isn't particularly exciting, being able to put together joints with the connectors really solidifies all the concepts in my head and then I start thinking about where I can use them. I really like how Lamello has developed a whole range of connectors that utilize the P-System slot, providing more options. |
