For our first edition, we're putting the spotlight on the Festool Rotex family. These powerful, heavy-duty multi-mode sanders can be switched between aggressive gear driven sanding and fine random orbit sanding.

There are three sizes of Rotex sanders:

    Know Your Accessories

     
    Edge Protector: Allows sanding into corners without damaging the adjacent surface or sanding pad. Soft Sanding Pad (Black): Ideal for general and heavy-duty sanding on flat or convex surfaces.

    Supersoft Sanding Pad (Grey): Ideal for even abrasion, convex surfaces, and details such as beading.

    Hard Sanding Pad (Blue): Ideal for crisp corners and flat surfaces.

    Polishing Pad (Green): For use with polishing pads.

    Foam Interface Pads: Ideal for sanding contours and details such as beading.

    Delta Sanding Pad (RO 90 only): For sanding into 3-way corners.

    4m x 18 Gauge Plug-it Cable: Detachable power cable. Included with Rotex sanders.

    SYS3 Systainer: 3rd generation of stackable and connectable lightweight toolboxes.

    Don't Forget...

    Abrasives

    The right abrasive sheets (commonly referred to sandpaper, even though sand is no longer used and not all backings are paper - read more about today's abrasives here) will produce the desired level of finish in the shortest amount of time. We recommend starting with the abrasive assortment matched to the sander pad size. This gets you a range of the most common grits in a durable Systainer.

    Dust Extraction

    A dust extractor not only removes dust as it is created, keeping the air clean and workspace cleaner, it allows the sander to work more efficiently and prolongs the life of the tool, sanding pad and abrasives.
     
    Any size of dust extractor is suitable for use with a Rotex sander, so look for one with adjustable suction and a size that makes sense for how much you move it around.
